I'm planning one or two trips to Europe this summer. Going to Greece for 2-3 weeks on a volunteer vacation/camp (lodging/cooking supplies may be available). Also pondering a 5-6-day trip to Ireland (hostels/independent travel). I also hope to use the pack for various O/N hikes in the future.

REI and Eddie Bauer have nice medium size packs (a little bigger than a standard school size backpack) worked great for me last year when I was in Germany. It will easily fit a few changes a clothes and personal items in it. They are sturdy and wear well also. Hope this helps and happy traveling. You can find both packs on their respective companies websites or in their stores.

well, alot depends on how much weight you are allowed to bring on the plane. Check your ticket for your baggage allowance and weigh all the stuff you want to take to see if you will be able to bring it all. Then see how big the pile of stuff that is and get a bag of that size. Don't bring too much, it's a nightmare to drag a huge heavy bag around on a backpacking trip. Only bring what you genuinely need. You don't need that many clothes, we have laundrettes here in Europe of course! We also have soap, shampoo, etc in shops, you don't need to bring a 3 month supply!

2-3 weeks? backpack? I would take human size back pack.. like these for mountain hiking, these real real big backpack.. otherwise just take a luggage with weels (recommended).

I go D.C. for three days I took back pack, but not to europe for 2-3 weeks. come on.

Get a big one, and I definitely recommend a backpack that converts to a suitcase on wheels.

Depends on how much stuff you're planning to take with you. Make sure you have everything and it all fits
