Right click My Computer and select properties. Go to the Device Manager under the Hardware tab and it should be under IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers if you have firewire installed.

a fire wire connector is bigger than the USB connector or a very small 4 pin connector..

If you have not got a firewire connector on the mother board then you wont have firewire

should you need a firewire connector for a device (camera) or what ever then you can get a PCI Firewire card and slip it into your computer that way you will have firewire connections
they cost about $30.00 (worth having)

Look at all the ports on your computer. If you see one that looks similar to a USB port but gets narrow towards the bottom then you have firewire. You can buy cheap PCI cards that have firewire. Just go to bestbuy.com and search "PCI firewire" and you should get some results.

A firewire is a cord that fits into your video camcorder. If the opposite end of the USB plug doesn't fit into any openings in your camcorder, it's not a FIreWire. Usually you have to buy the wire separately from the computer and camcorder.

I have firewire if you did not install a firewire card all you have is a usb connection.
