Smith is better
whoever said hes a rusher has never watched smith, i would say quinn is faster bt smith is better in the pocket and can evade the rush. Quinn is overrated. His td-int ratio isnt anywhere near smiths and smith has been a winner all his years. Quinn has never won the big game. A lot gets made of quinn playing in an nfl offense. Thats nice but its only one offense. He would have to learn a new one anyways unless he goes to the pats. He also isnt much taller than smith which has been the knock on him. He only has about 2 inches on him.
Even with all this, quinn is likely gonna be ddrafted ahead of smith, but i think smith will go on to have a better carear.

First off Quinn did beat USC last year, but the pac-10 refs decided to put 6 seconds back on the clock and then turned a blind eye to Reggie Bush pushing his QB into the end zone!! This year Quinn's recievers dropped 4 passes in the end zone against USC that I counted. Troy Smith is a great athlete but he will be a HUGE bust in the NFL as a QB. He is just being labled a winner by being on a superior team, I wonder what people would say if Quinn went to Ohio St. and Smith went to Notre Dame? Look no futher than Randle El, Charlie Ward, Tony Rice or Kordell Stewart to see how well Troy Smith will fair in the NFL. Quinn will be hands down the better NFL QB!

Quinn is a better choice because of his poise. He has the decision making of a professional QB. Right now, Smith is by far better. I'm going to have to say, though...Michigan is Notre Dame's biggest rival, not USC. Think about it. The two winningest teams in NCAA football history...Michigan and Notre Dame. Michigan TAUGHT ND how to play football. I agree that Troy Smith could be amazing, and so could Quinn.
Part of it is also race. Smith has established himself as a pocket passer, sure. But he is still a black quarterback. There was a statement by Wayne Gandy (OL for the Atlanta Falcons) saying that there is a different level of expectation for black QBs, and I agree with that statement (though not with the concept). Smith has shown in the past that he's great out of the pocket. Now they see him in the pocket, and he's still great. NFL scouts and coaches are going to expect both from him. Not only that, but they don't know what will happen and which Troy Smith will show up in the pros--the poised, Heisman-winning ultra-talent that they've seen this year, or the inexperienced, erratic, too-quick-to-pull-the-ball-down-and-run potential big-time bust. Quinn is going to be consistent, but not as electrifying as Smith. Scouts think Quinn is a safer choice.
Also, winning the Heisman, as you know, does not a Pro Career make. Think about the likes of Ty Detmer, Gino Terreta, Jason White, Eric Crouch, Rashaan Salaam, Danny Wuerffel, and that's just since 1990. People are beginning to think that Heisman Winners are a crap shoot.
I'm rambling. I'm done now.

The NFL is a different animal. They cant look at how a QB did against the lesser opposition, they evaluate talent on a few different levels. Smith is without a doubt a very talented player but he comes up short in the measurables and i am not refering to height, although that is a factor and a reason why Brees wasnt highly rated coming out (if i remember correctly he was a 3rd rounder). Both Brady Quinn and Brian Brohm are rated higher than Smith as both have stonger more accurate arms, run and understand a pro style offensehave better size and strength and many other intangibles. Plus they dont have character issues (not that Smith doesnt deserve a second chance) the facts are that both Quinn and Brohm have no incidents of youthful indecrection. This is not to say either will be better pros than Smith, the teams have to look at all angles and that is why it is less of a gamble to take one of the other 2 and when you are talking gaurenteed dollars the teams prefer to err on the side of caution. Smith will go in the first round but he is rated a mid first rounder and more likely will slide toward the bottom of the first round. Remember drafting is all speculation which explains why Joe Montana was a 3rd rounder, Brady a 6th rounder, Hasselbeck (6th rd), Favre (2nd rd), Romo (undrafted) and the list goes on and on of lower drafted QBs who do well.

Ugh.
According to NFL Draft guru Scott Wright (of NFL Draft Countdown), Quinn is the best QB prospect he's ever seen since Carson Palmer and perhaps, Peyton Manning. Quinn has the prototypical size of 6'5 and after JaMarcus Russell, has perhaps the best arm in the draft this year. His accuracy is dodgy at times, yes, but he's got every single thing going for him including a pretty good 40 time of 4.75-4.80. Also, if you really blame Quinn for all the ND failures then you didn't watch the game. The interior OL of ND is dreadful and considering he spent most of the Georgia Tech and Michigan game on his back, he did suffer. Also, considering the defense can't hold anyone; he has to throw all day long with only two legitimate WRs Jeff Samardzija and Rhema McKnight who has shaky hands.
Troy Smith is not a great prospect due to his height. Yes, his height is part of the problem as he's probably going to measure in around 5'10. That's not good, and considering he his NOT a great athlete, who's 40 is hardly better than Quinn, he has a huge disadvantage to the NFL. Drew Brees, out of Purdue, was one of the most accurate passers with NO legit WRs ever. He was just always there, boom boom boom, like he was playing darts. Smith also plays with Antonio Pittman and Beanie Wells (both better RBs than Darius Walker), Ted Ginn Jr, Anthony Gonzalez, Brian Robiskie, a great OL and a great D. He also doesn't run a pro-style offense at OSU with 4/5-WR sets.
Actually, the 4.6 given to Smith is VERY generous, Brees was measured in at 6'0 at the combine, Smith likely not that high.

Smith should be the better prospect because he knows how to win. NFL scouts need to look at that more then anything, if a player knows how to win and finish then he should be the better candidate to win. Notice Vince Young isn't surrounded by great teammates but he's a winner and finds a way. Matt Leinart isn't winning many games in Arizona but he has thrown for a lot of yards and has utilized Fitzgerald and Boldins talent to his advantage. Obviously last years draft will be different since there were 2 quarterbacks with a national championship but if i were to pick out of Smith and Quinn to recharge my franchise it would be Smith for the simple fact that he will end up winning the big game.

lol Troy smith 40 time not much better than Quinn??!!. Plz, you do realize that if quinn runs a 4.75 and smith runs a 4.60 that is a HUGE difference in track. Also, you do realize that troy smith only ran for 233 yards and 1 TD this year right? yea thats more than quinn but that definitely doesnt qualify him a "running Qb."
Troy is leagues better than Quinn, and i hate Ohio st. The only reason they keep saying Quinn is better is because he plays for notre dame (Cough*Ron Powlus*Cough) and hes taller. But last time i checked, Drew Brees was a generous 6'0.

I'm not sure if you meant the other way around because troy smith won the Heisman but i would agree that Quinn is a great player but he played better last year.

I think Quinn is better. But i'm not as big of a fan as everyone else is. Notre Dame hasn't produced a qb since Montana. The NFL is a leauge that you have to be a pocket passer. And not a running qb. Example: Michael Vick

properly what may well be relaxing for Oakland to do...pass on Brady Quinn and JaMarcus Russell...take Calvin Johnson LSU and Steve Smith USC and Troy Smith interior the third around. beneficial Smith isn't a suitable QB on the boards, yet you do no longer win the Heisman given which you haven't any longer have been given any skills, besides the undeniable fact that they are not all success memories. regardless of...the suited greater healthful for them may well be JaMarcus Russell on the instant simply by fact their offensive line isn't very solid and Russell is a very good cellular QB over Quinn...yet Smith...i do no longer understand, it variety of feels unusual how a participant can fall that far simply by fact of top and dropping to Florida after doing so properly and till now being projected so intense...regardless of Russell acceptable now
