I've seen it twice, and my conclusion is that it's fairly uneven. The film starts out as a highly entertaining piece about singing and dancing penguins. Can you think of anything more adorable? It's a wonderful fable about the acceptance of others' abilities and ideas. And it has some of the funniest and most memorable lines -- "Don't be afraid, but I love you!"

However, the plot doesn't stick to the simpler points and entertaining elements that really could have made it great. Instead, it includes a fairly irrelevant scene when carnivorous birds that threaten a penguin chick and eventually begins to focus solely on the over-harvesting of fish in the Antarctic. I remember sitting there and thinking, "Where did this come from?"

Of course, the film sports phenomenal animation, such as the scene when the seven penguins walk into the wind on their quest, and the soundtrack includes some of the highlights of the 20th century songbook. Unfortunately, that doesn't make up for its bizarrely unfocused plot. It's almost as though a second film with strong political undertones was inserted into the middle of what could have been an exceptionally entertaining movie.

Again, the film has its good points, but overall, it earns a C+.

The animation was beautiful. It was absolutely phenominal. That scene with the wind! Wow!
As for storyline, the main storyline itself was really sweet. Poor guy, can't sing. I'm glad Mumble got with Gloria. I was rooting for them.
I love the Adelies! They're my favorite, they're too cute. How cute was that scene where the leopard seal was up on the land and he was coming after them, and they're all "Oh no he's coming after us! Better run away at two miles an hour!" And then they do that really cute slow motion run? Ah!
The eco bent at the end kind of turned me off, I've seen so many movies like that in the past decade I could just scream.
And hey! I thought that was kind of cool, how they put real people in the movie.

I saw it and I thought it was much worse than expected. The movie trailers make it sound all about being different and unique but half of the movie is about Mumble trying to find humans and other things. The songs and characters were cute but the plot needed work.

Interesting movie. When I went to go see it I didn't expect it to be about a dancing pengiun. I also didn't expect the little thing to be in a zoo. I liked the main point to get the fish back though! Would see it again.
