Just wondering if the mother and father were first half cousins could the dna read that he is the father by that or would he half to be the father for real. It is 99.999%
An old rumor was back in the day that my grandma slept with my fiance's grandpa..which is his mothers father and concieved my father. That would make my father and his mother half siblings if it were true. No one really knows because they are both deceased..now we have a child together. Just making sure that wouldn't have anything to do with the dna results.

No - no one has identical DNA, and everyone can be traced back to a relative through very small genes. so, all DNA will prove is that you are related to both of the people who supposedly were related and slept together.
If DNA says he's the father, he's the father. If it were someone else, there would be no genetic indicators to show similarities to your child that one shows if they are related.

To BABYRN: even identical twins DO NOT have identical DNA, this has been proven time and time again. NO ONE has identical DNA. Identical twins do in fact carry the same genotype, but not the same phenotype, so their DNA is expressed in different ways. While a simple DNA test will not differentiate between ID twins, fingerprints will. DNA could possibly be broken down further in order to get to the core of identifying between ID twins but technology is not quite there yet.

RN: You are just that, and RN. Just stay being a nurse. You don't know crap about DNA. If twins had identical DNA their phenotypes would NOT BE DIFFERENT - everything would be exactly identical, hence, the meaning of identical. Identical DNA means just that - IDENTICAL. There are markers in DNA to prove one's identity other than fingerprints - if there wasn't, DNA would be completely useless. At present the testing is being revamped to allow for finding the minute gene mutations which do set everyone, including identical twins apart.

Asker, don't worry about it. RN asks what that has to do with it and yet SHE brought it up. You were never asking that to start with. YES, your DNA test is accurate whether or not relatives slept together. Period.

I'm not too clear on what you are asking. Do you mean if you do a paternity test, will the results be skewed if you and your fiance are related? The answer is no.

If you were doing a paternity test between say...your fiance and his father, their genetic markers would be similar but not exact. The only ones who might have identical DNA are identical twins.

My neighbors are second cousins, a fact they discovered on their second date (a huge LDS family in a small town) and they are fine. I've delivered a few babies where the parents were first cousins (from other cultures, usually middle eastern or from India) and in most cases the baby was fine.

If you are that concerned you should see a genetic specialist before you conceive. Explain your concerns, believe me they've heard it all. But unless you have known genetic disorders in your family, the fact that you are potential first half-cousins sounds far enough apart not to worry.

To the last poster: Your post was contradictory, I don't understand what you're getting at. Yes, identical twins do have identical DNA as noted in the links. I agree that they can look different and have different fingerprints but that information was not addressed in this question at all. The question was about DNA testing.

ok now...I really don't understand why you put a link that said once again that identical twins have identical DNA (genotypes) but their appearance (phenotypes) are different, as are their fingerprints. That is exactly what I've said all along. In fact, my own father is an identical twin, he is straight, his brother is gay, he participated in a study because of this and they had DNA testing to confirm they were identical. Their DNA analysis was given to them and they were identical. And yes, of course environmental influences, hormones or other things cause physical traits to be expressed differently.

I'm really not sure why you find the need to insult me personally just because we are disagreeing in response to a question (on a point which isn't even relevant to the actual question). If you have some new information you can show me to clarify your position, please do so. I'm always willing to learn new things.

ok...Native americans pair up with cousins all the time (purposely) to keep the bloodline strong. 1/2 cousins or second cousins is sucha small fraction that it usually doesnt cause bi-polar conditions or lupus which is commonly associated with incestial children. Usually its brothers and sisters fathers and daughters (those children produced from that couple), etc that is the health issue. The DNA will just show the markers and how closely related the kids are to the parents. It will just be a closer range than most folks tested. father is a father is a father...cousin or not , that would just be an extra family branch...no biggie

There was a girl that slept with brothers and when she got pregnant she did not know which one the kid belonged to. They did a dna test and i thought how are they going to tell between brothers? You would think that brothers would have the same dna and all of that and they couldn't tell but they could, they knew which brother it was that got her pregnant

It is a somewhat myth tht incest causes birth defects. In ancient Egypt in order to ensure the bloodline in royalty it was very common for brothers and sisters to marry. That was as little as a few hundred years ago. As long as there is no known hereditary diseases you are pretty much in the clearing. You both have to have to be carriers for a hereditary disease. I hope this helps you.
