The former is a stereotype created by straights who felt that it was a part of the definition of gender to be heterosexual. In the 1950's straight guy mind, if a guy likes other guys, that's reminiscent of the way women are "supposed" to be, so the guy must be more like a woman. Clearly, that's utter nonsense, but stereotypes die hard.
As for the techno, for a lot of people the only place they see people they KNOW are gay is in the gay bars / clubs. Dance clubs play dance music; go fig.

All gays do like techno..its in the genes..just kidding. I dont think most gay men are feminine. I think society, gay and str8, expect gay men to fall into the stereotypes. You dont associate that the football player is gay until he starts making out with some guy.

I wouldn't say most gays are feminine. Not at all. It's just a stereotype. And all gays like techno? That is ridiculous. That's like saying all blacks like rap. Get real!

This is a common stereotype since most gay men that are visible in the media are "flaming" and effeminate. Also, the "flaming" types tend to attract attention because of their flamboyant behavior, and therefore overshadow the other, shyer, less flambyoant gays that actually make up the majority of the gay population. Gay boys are still boys. Due to social attacks, some become "flaming" and "in your face", but many others quietly live their lives without becoming effeminate or flaming.

SURPRISE!
Most gays are not feminine.
Scary, isn't it? Or can you be comfortable knowing this secret?
Some gays will "play up" the femme routine for fun or to show identification (gay pride). Some are naturally that way. But most gays aren't feminine by any appearances.
Obviously, the feminine ones "stand out." How could the non-feminine (majority) "stand out" and be noticed? I mean, really? The answer is just too obvious for further discussion!

WAIT! There is something I'd like to recommend.
==> Check out the movie: "The Naked Civil Servant." Amazing!
It's the bio pic of Quentin Crisp, a British subject, a respected author, journalist, columnist who died a few years back.
(You can do a quick google bio check before renting the film, if you want.) What is amazing is that it is the only movie to ever squarely address the matter of a FEMININE man. In other words, it is not just another movie about a gay man; it's about a FEMININE man who is also gay. Remarkable life story of a man who courageously refuses to conceal his natural feminine qualities despite all of the abuse, discrimination, hatred and outrage that follow him every step of his public life in London.
It is his absolute refusal to modify his natural femininity to please the public that makes him so courageous. He survives all of the slings and arrows, maintaining his dignity and preserving his self-respect, despite the public sneers and derision which confronted him in modern London.

I don't know for sure as I am straight. Is a male homosexual called a "gay"? If this is the case then I think that this is the only real way that they are portrayed in the media. You know, television shows and movies. I don't know what techno is so I can't help you there.

A man being a woman is not natural, and so when a man is trying to imitate a woman in my opinion he over does it. If you notice, women in general do not act as feminent as some gay men do. Maybe a woman doesn't act as feminent because she has nothing to prove; she's a woman. Whereas a gay man, well.... he wants to be noticed.
As far as the Techno music, I believe it's a person's choice. I haven't heard much about it being related to gays.

Because you wouldn't recognize the rest of us. Your only geared to see the most flamboyant ones. The rest of us look like everyone else. And as for the flamboyant ones, we celebrate them, because they are the most visible and the most attacked, so why shouldn't we care for and protect them? They are honest to themselves, something that most people are afraid to be!
Why do gays love Techno? I love it because there are so many styles, ambient, house, trance, goa, are just 4 off the top of my head, and I can honestly think of at least 10 more styles! Plus, who doesn't love to dance!

At my college, the most noticeable gay men are the effeminate ones. However, they are a decided minority among the gay college students that I am personally aquainted with here at my school.
Yes there are the theater people and their assorted hangers on. There are also the gay athletes (one of whom I date). There are also the average gay guys...the ones who are all American and whom you would love for your sister to date. (except that they are gay).
As far as techno goes...well...Ferry Corsten is so damn cute!
