I would consider anyone native to the Americas (North and South) a Native American. Indian. Whatever.

Of course she's a native American. She's native to America...so...there you go.

"America" doesn't just refer to the US. We've often co-opted the name because our country has "America" in it, but I would say it refers to everybody on our two continents. Most of the Western Hemisphere, really.

If her ancesteral history is from any of the peoples INDIGENOUS to the American continent, whether north or south, she would be considered Native American.
Oh yes, Canada is part of America, it is part of North America. Perhaps your friend mistakenly thinks (as many do) that the USA is the only portion considered America.

I agree with Esweet, My nation is from Mexico and I definetly consider myself Native American. The U.S. is not the only America. America encompasses North and South America together period. So the Guarani from Paraguay are just as Native American as you from Canada. nuff said, blessings and excellent question. BTW check out the new movie Apocalypto with the Cree actor Youngblood, I believe he's from Canada.

Interesting question.
I don't believe there are any true Native Americans, they all immigrated from somewhere. It's just that some of them may have done it several hundred, or even thousand, years before the others.
