Probably the worst mistake was leaving my job as a Claims Adjuster and going to something else. I loved being a Claims Adj. the pay was great. If the company did good, you received a bonus at the end of the year. The only thing was working at the office 50 hours and expected to go home and put in another 30 of your own time......

After a couple years in the Air Force I was asked if I planned on staying in after my enlistment. I told the boss "no", I plan on getting out. Well, they considered me a lost cause so a training class was given to someone else instead. If I had said "yes" I am planning on staying in, I would have gotten the class instead.
I ended up staying 20 years until I retired from Active Duty. But I learned not to burn bridges on career opportunities.

1. Staying when the officials became abusive.
2. Staying when the managers were having illegal affairs with the customers.
3. Staying when they were nasty to those of us who would not go out and drink with them.
4. So - when they took away my job, I took them to court, FEDERAL court that is, as this was a federal job. Thank GOD I won, and the wonderful FEDERAL judge took pity on me, and said I was the highest ranking, educated person that she had before her in her 15 year Federal career. TYG for everything.
So in summary, I won, and the Judge offered me an early out from a high FEDERAL job for illegal discrimination, and I got to retire at 50!
I had to make lemonade when life handed me a lemon.
GOD bless us one and all, always

Entering a field in which I was never really happy.
You are always far better off in a career if you are doing something that you enjoy. Evenif, for example, you decide that you want to work in the not-for-profit sector, there are still plenty of types of businesses within it. So, if your interest in is education, don't enter the not-for-profit medical field, etc.

Quitting my first job after four years. If I would have stayed, I could have retired early, but I didn't know that at the time.
