And what do I give instead of breast milk?

Check the Le Leche League website, they have a great deal of info that can help for all kinds of babies (and mommies). My oldest was almost 15 months old when I weaned her. I found it easiest to only breast feed her first thing in the morning the first couple of days, then I stopped all together. I pumped my milk and offered it to her in a sippy cup. She was also given whole cows milk or water. I never gave her juices until she was about 2, but that was a personal preferance. I would strongly advise against giving your little one a bottle unless its something he/she is already used to. No reason to introduce something else you will have to take away. Go right to a sippy cup and keep up the good work.

You are suppose to wait until your baby is 12months before inroducing milk to him/her. My doctor told me to start with whole milk because the babys need the fat and vitamin d. I weaned my daughter at 11 months almost 12 months and while she was still only 11 months i started giving her a sippy cup of juice. After a while she got use to the cup and didnt seem interested in "mommy" anymore. She also started biting me which is another reason i weaned her at 11 months.....

Don't wean her unless you absolutely have to!! Believe me if you wean her off the breast before YOU are ready, you will regret it.

If circumstances require to to wean her, just every time she tries to grab your breast or tugs at your top divert her attention with a toy or something she likes.

Replacement formulaes are very good, go to a good Pharmacy and speak to the Pharmacist. They are good at recommending these types of products.
When I have weaned my kids (six of them) I usually tried to stay home for the first day just incase of upset babies, then after that they were fine.

I also did the control crying/comforting at the same time.

Worst child took me four days but by the third night he was sleeping pretty much all thru but wokeup once as a habit.

If you need any more advice don't hesitate to email me

I weaned all three of my kids after their first birthday. Then, we went right to vit. D milk in a sippy cup. We skipped the bottle and formula completely. THis was my pediatrician's advice and it worked great for us.

use a breast pump and try feeding him breast milk with a bottle and every other feeding or so, give him rice/cereal formula or milk until he doesn't want the breast milk anymore. you can also store breast milk so you won't have to pump as often if you still want to feed him/her breast milk

Preferably goat's milk, if not you can offer either formula or cow's milk.
