Why are we so interested in their lives?
Why do we care about their marriages, their kids, their breakups?
Do you think they enjoy our obsession over them?
Is all we read in STAR and all the other gossip magizines a lie created by Hollywood to hide their real lives?
Are they actually not as glamouse and as perfect as we imagion them to be?
Are they really attention craving people?
Do you think they purposly get themselves hooked on cocaine just so they can go to rehab and get in the gossip collum again?
Do they really intend to divorce someone after a month, or did they really belive they were going to work?
And why are we so facenated about this?
Is it because our own lifes are not as fashionable?
That we must obsess over them to make ourselves feel better?
Or is it just a subconsiouse need to read about others private failures, with no 'hidden meaning' attached?

I believe we admire attention cravers because we may be attention cravers ourselves.

It's a sad commentary on U.S. society and culture because in other countries it isn't a big deal and in many others they don't know or care at all. People obsessed with celebrities are probably feeling pretty empty in regards to their own lives and fantasize a lot. Also, the media is greatly to blame as so many of these people are put out there. If they weren't in the news so much then people would just know them as actors on the screen.
But the media hypes it all up and feeds the hunger of those who would rather drool over others as an escape from living their own lives. I live in an area where I see/cross paths with famous actors and actresses almost every day and it's no big deal-they are just people. I might have the thought that they are good at acting, but nothing more.

Because we crave to be like them. We try to emulate their paths so we could end up like them too. They represent the "American Dream" so to speak. The nice body, the sexy mate, the nice house, nice car, and plenty of resources. Because we are very materialistic, we think this is what we want in this world. People forget that even those celebrities might not be truly happy. Money does not lead to full happiness.

Celebrities act as a safe daydream module for most people's lives. We learn just enough about their lives to imagine how 'different' they must be, and therefore happier, because how we define them is how we imagine our own happiness to be defined.
We are fascinated simply due to the ignorance we place upon them, an ignorance we fill with our own imaginings.

Athletes and actors (celebrities) are often people who seek the approval of strangers and most of the people who actually care about these celebs are people of a similar nature and get thier satisfaction by means of projection or vicariously.
