That we allow inlaws or whom ever to put us in situations we dont want to be in and they just dont listen or just dont care to listen when we say no. example: kissing on meeting and goodbyes..even then the goodbye ends up being 2 kisses at least...then there is the sit down routine.. no i ok...no sit down go on...sit here in this chair..no not that one..oh ok i was just going to sit by the door to get some air (easy escape more like) no you dont want to get air sit here...or the are you ok routine..yes im fine thank you...are you sure are you ok is everything ok...yes ..by the time they have left you feel soooo deflated, angry, annoyed and just totally fed up that you an adult in your own right with a family and children of your own have allowed this to happen yet again. Arghhhhhhhh am i over reacting or what!!!

Not over reacting. I understand. Mine make me soooooo angry I just fume the whoel way home in the car.

I can't offer any helpful suggestions, because I have the same problem and haven't solved it yet. I can, however, offer my solidarity and sincere sympathy.

you are not over reacting, my inlaws freak out panic if one of us goes out with out the other-and the simple he/she didn't feel up to it, is never the right answer although it's the only one! We now force ourselves to go out even if we aren't feeling up to it because we understand that if one of us did turn up alone all we would hear is "things are alright between you aren't you aren't they" followed by "have you had a row" then the same questions are repeated ALL night!
I actually thought that the fact that we can go out alone is actually proof that things are fine-but apparently not! Can't win!

It's just good old fashioned manners and we put up with it so as not to offend. It's tedious but most of us grin and bear it to save hassle.
Just have a large bean bag ready for when you get home and then kick the s**t out of it to relieve the frustration.

No, you're not over reacting. We all have to deal with it. You've got to try to be assertive without losing your politeness. I struggle with elderly relatives, it's bloody tough isn't it. I would say you have to stand up to them for your childrens sake so that they also learn to stand up for themselves when in similar situations in the future. Good luck.
