I'm 36 and I'm afraid of gory movies and roller coasters that go upside down. I'm also afraif of alligators. Not afraid of sheep, but I find cows and horses very intimidating due to their size. Am I normal?

Honey, I don't think it's sth you have to worry about. I'm 15 and still afraid of too many things. I'm afraid of dark, cuz I always imagine that there's sth scary there and I can't see it. I'm afraid of roller coasters, cuz I'm also afraid of heights and I get sick when the roller goes really up, and I think that someday I may fall out of it. that makes me be afraid of roller coasters. I don't wanna watch gory movies cuz they scare me too much and then I can't sleep. I'm also afraid of animals such us aligators, snakes and insects. Oh, and rats. I'm afraid of them for no reason.

not normal at all. some sort of maturity problem somewhere in the noggin. unfortunately I'm not a psychiatrist quite yet so i cant diagnose it, but your best approach would be drilling it into her brain that they aren't going to hurt her. gory movies is understandable. many young children cant stand them. the dark, still kinda normal at 11. roller coasters, kinda normal also. some people just don't like them. i personally hate them, not so much scared of them. i think the animals is whats strange. alligators, i suppose is somewhat logical and partway normal but farm animals? not so much.
a quick trip to a psychiatrist might clear up a few of these but i wouldn't worry too much about it. but before you do, i would suggest you ask what it is that scares her about these things. otherwise you're in the dark.

What is normal any more anyways?
Okay, I was afraid of the dark until I was 13, and I wasn't to good with animals. I hate rollercoasters period, even if they flip, so your cuz is fine:)

Being afraid of an alligator that hasn't been diced, battered, and deep fried is normal. Everything else...she needs to get over.

normal is relative....i think you need to ask WHY she is afraid. Most of the time we only fear what we don't know or understand.
