no one knows, and it's purposely concealed no one is supposed to know. but as their town is called springfield, I would like to opine that they live in Ilinois, which of course, is everyman'sville USA as its in the mid west.

The writers and producers write the scripts just so you can never guess what state the show takes place in. Because it has characterizations that can apply to any city in the US.
The Simpsons live in a town called Springfield and there is a Springfield in every state.

The Simpsons is characters which is played in United States. So it is hard to determine where the location is. I agree with others, the location could be anywhere in US.

As for me I'm a Simpson and I live in Michigan, but the ones on TV are in Sprinfield, Illinos I believe.
