when I wash my nicer tee shirts I put them in a mesh bag ( like a lingerie bag) that seems to help me

That seems to be a very prevalent problem and it is driving lots of people nuts around the globe. Thus far, I haven't found an answer, but I would like to because this sometimes happens to me as well.

Take a look at some of these links, and you'll see how people are trying just about everything to cure this, but so far, no help.

Depends of the material, if its cheap it'll wear out faster. Maybe its really delicate and hand wash them instead. Sometimes in the dryer it can also cause tiny holes.

If your shirts are more than a decade old that might have something to do with it. Like say an Air Supply concert tee maybe.

Moths do some work on clothes, it happened 2 me, and your laundry detergent may also play a part

If you wash them enough times, they do wear out. Try a gentle cycle.

Do you use a wire clothes line?

If so check the line for snaped bits of wire - that was what was puttingholes in my clothes.

That's odd. You probably have some sort of pests in your house.
