Why is the ride Perilous plunge at Knott's Berry Farm closed? I heard a lady died but I'm not sure if it is true

A lady (who was too fat) died just after 9-11-2001 during a private party for Target Corporation on a Friday Night.

This caused the ride to be shut down for many months with modifications made to the restraint system (an annoying 5 point harness that took forever to get on).

Recently, they have changed that system to over the shoulder restraints like you see on most looping coasters.

The right now is probably down for routine maintance as it has been cold there the last month.

It IS true that a woman died on the ride...but that was a few years ago! The ride isn't closed for that reason. If the ride is ever closed, it's most likely just for routine maintnance, as all the rides have to be maintained for safety!
