Dont listen to that rubbish; listen to me.

Get yourself a belkin signal booster. Only £40ish from PC World, or you can find one easily on the Net.

Its very simply to install. Just a mains plug and all you have to do is put in the mac address into your router. If it takes you longer than 3 mins, you shouldnt really be operating a pc without supervision.

move the two wireless devices as close together as you can. Try to limit the ammount of concrete between the conections if possible.

Some usb wireless cards have a stronger conection if they re aligned a certain way so this could also be a factor.

Other than that get better equipment, the standard equipment that comes from an ISP may not be the most expensive if given away free

Get closer to your friends transmission equipment. If you have a laptop, just move to a room closer to the source of the signal. If you are anchored with a desk top your out of luck. When my neighbor was using my ISP, I actually moved my (router?) to the Kitchen, it was closer for him and still gave me 100% signal strength, and it got the damn thing off of my desk.

Been there, done that, in both directions.
