Car may be possible in future . But about battery it is not possible , Because you need a minimum amount of radio active element . That I think it is more then 35 to 40 KG(critical amount) ... So
Till Now As far I know in coming 10 to 20 years we are not going to see any car or batteries using nuclear power .
Even if it will be possible I not thing it is good for environment , because after using these batteries we need to dump in atleast 1.5 Km below land or sea . which is a very costly deal .

There will prbably not be nuclear powered cars anytime in the next millenium. There are many safety concerns and the average citizen cannot be trusted with nuclear fuel materials. I disagree with my own statement as a citizen but I just dont see the government turning it out to anyone in the country that wants it.
On the other hand, a nuclear power plant could be used to charge batteries that could be used to run a car. the batteries are expensive and heavy and the electricity will be expensive so the automakers are really working on other technologies. this would include hybrids (electric/ gasoline combinations) or hydrogen fuel cell technology.

The first nuclear powered car will have a small fusion generator, about the half of size of actual engines (the whole power plant!). The fuel will be deuterium stored in form of heavy water, with a hydrogen generator.The fusion generator will generate heat in an controlled system.In the beginning as engine will be used the steam engine, then a closed circuit liquid gas piston engine, than a turbine, etc. They will have from 300hp and up. You will have to fill the tank only twice in a year, with bottled heavy water that you will buy at WalMart. Nuclear cars will be much more safer than those that we have now, because of extra power we can build heavier stronger cars (but we will have carbon nanotubes car body's too :-). Because the fusion reaction will work only in special condition in case of an accident everything will shut down.They will be much cheaper too! I think that we will se these in our lives...no more pollution, more freedom....just imagine!

For an active nuclear reactor to work, it needs to be pretty large, and that includes lots of shielding that weight tons. Nuclear reactor cannot easily be made smaller than a fair sized house, restricting its use to ships and submarines.
One can envision radioisotopic thermoelectric generators -- those are used to power space probes -- that can produce 400 watt for decades -- but 10 times as much power is continuously released as heat. 400 W is just over 1/2 of a horse power. And that comes from 8 kg of plutonium 238, which is not exactly cheap and available from the corner store.
So, the short answer is: no.

the problems are the violent situations that are eriducable, the contamination theories are horrible, and besides the quantum theories of nuclear power were way off in conception to application, once figured to give 100 times the benefit of hydro- was substantially reduces to like only four times the power of Hydro- by the time the nuclear regulatory commission was through satisfying safety on it, so there is no way to get ride of the u-234 waste when the battery is damaged or has a malfunction, it would do a great job but we are poisoned by it to build it and use it i think insurance & medical would be prohibitive

Probably not in the near future. Nuclear power generation involves heating water to steam by subjecting the water to a nuclear reaction and using the steam to turn a turbine generator. The size of the equipment would definitely be an issue. Maybe one day though.

That would be a VERY bad idea. Nuclear power is dangerous. Not only would it present radioactive danger in the event of an accident, but it would also make nuclear weapons as easy to build as Molotov cocktails. Certainly not worth the advantage of never needing to refuel the car again. But theoretically, yes it COULD be done.

The shielding would be too heavy. Believe it or not there was some research done on nuclear aircraft back in the day, but the shielding issue nixed it before any of the other issues were even considered.

My first reaction became that this became a terrible concept. even inspite of the shown fact that it seems as though they have their bases coated. The batteries that ability Voyager weren't very efficient, and would not be waiting to ability an electric automobile. yet while they be able to enhance the technologies, it basically would make issues thrilling for the oil companies. Muahahahaha!

If we had cold fusion generated electricity we could charge our electric powered cars through that source. It would be clean and sustainable.
