Word problems simply require a little translation skill!
This sentence translates to:
1/8(sqrt(number-7)) = 2
therefore,
sqrt(number-7) = 16
number-7 = 16*2 = 256
I'll let you take it from here.

i am confused.
i dont know whether the equation is supposed to be this
(1) x - 1/8(sqrt7) = 2
or this
(2) 1/8(sqrt(x-7)) = 2
the question can mean both!
anyway,
(1) x - 1/8(sqrt7) = 2
x= 2+1/8(sqrt7)
you can continue yourself from here
(2) 1/8(sqrt(x-7)) = 2
(sqrt(x-7)) = 2*8
sqrt(x-7)=16
(x-7) = 16^2 = 256
x=256+7=263
anyway i think (2) is the correct answer

(sqrt (x-7))/8 = 2
sqrt (x - 7) = 16
x - 7 = 16^2
x - 7 = 256
x = 256 + 7
x = 263
The number is 263
