GEARS OF WAR! By an absolute freakin' mile. Incredible game - I've been playing FPS games since the very first DOOM came out, I've probably played 'em all - Gears of War is second only to KillZone in my humble opinion. Not because KillZone is awesome, particularly, but because it's very believable and atmospheric.
Oh, and there's Halo II as well....but that's pretty much statin gthe obvious. ^_^
Seriously - don't even consider an FPS before Gears of War. It'll blow your mind.

first of all Gears of War is a Third-person shooter, not a First person shooter. However, I would have to recommend that as the best shooter currently on the 360.

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas, ABSOLUTELY gorgeous up to date Graphics. If you love Splinter Cell or any first person shooter, get this game. Multiplayer even puts Gears of War to shame.
And if you put KillZone before Counter-Strike or Half Life series then you my friend is a newbie.
And btw, Gears of War is classfied as Third Person Shooter

Gears of War !!!! If that isn't your cup of tea, then a must go with #2, Call of Duty3, I prefer ( im gready) BOTH,, Graphics are mind blowing.
