when you write it is shorter... and in the business world people say " Dub Dub Dub Dot..." not "Double U, Double U, Double U, Dot..."

OK see how its short. you can say dub dub dub dot very quick

Most people use keyboards as their primary input device for their computers rather than speech. As a result, "www" is MUCH shorter to type than "World Wide Web". When we're all talking to our computers (like Scotty tried to do by talking into a mouse in "The Voyage Home"), then it will be a different story.
