That's a really tough choice to make, both women did an exceptional job singing the song, but if I had to pick I would go with Jennifer Holliday, only because she orginally sang the song and made it famous. However, Jennifer Hudson's version of it is a very close second. With that being said Hudson's performance in Dreamgirls was amazing, every song she sang was on point. If you haven't seen the movie yet, I would highly recommend it. :)

This is a tough question. I use to think that no one could sing And I Am Telling You better than Holiday, but Hudson, in my opinion, does a much better job than Holiday. Hudson's version was cleaner and steadier and demonstrated more compelling passion with moments of stoic steadfastnes. Of course, this is a strictly subjective response. My mother loved Hudson's version, but still believes that Holiday's version is better.

Vocally they are so different. I can't compare the two. It's like comparing Aretha Franklin to Patti Labelle. They both did an equally great job in my opinion. I do give Jennifer Holiday props for making the original Effie famous.
