Entirely possible it depends on who you hear the comment from. For example if its someone you admire and trust than yeah I believe you might subconsciously change your view of that person who was spoken about. Reality is in the eye of the beholder love so try not to let other's opinions and views affect your own.

It can happen sure. I have few family members who would "gossip" about another family member and though it was uneasy for me to just sit there with them, but all I could do was be patient and listen. After they finished "gossiping," I had gone straight to bed. The thing is, the person my family was gossiping about were all true and so I didn't feel sorry or anything about this person.

I can see that happening.
The way I would handle this situation would be:
List all the good things you like about this person and work with that instead of the negative things that other people are saying.

Of course if it is subconscious you wouldn't be aware of it but if you develop a habit of asking yourself "who said that" whenever you catch yourself thinking such things about people, you might realize it was a conditioned reflex of the subconscious nature.

Sad but true. We are only human. If possible, ask the person about it to clear your mind about it. This way you can give them the benefit of the doubtl

I wish I had listened to some of those negative comments...they ended up being true. Sometimes, you just don't know if it's gossip, jealousy, or truth.

I believe there is some truth to that. A lot depends on your morals as well. For me, I don't listen to negative rhetoric. I detest it. I just walk away.

You have your own mind and can form your own opinions about people if you took the time to know the person.

some people are susceptible to acting literaly upon what they hear, just like you said. i hate that and its making my work life hard because i told an employee who i thought wouldn't run her mouth a few personal things about myself and now everyone and their brother knows about it and treats me like subhuman scum because they're all goody2shoes *****.

so yea its entirely possible, but know that, and know its wrong to do stuff like that without thinking over what *really* happened and not someone who knows someones friend of a friends sister in laws cousin's word on what someone said or is like.

i hate gossip and rumors and people who listen to them and pass them on and act on them like a religion.
