Yes that is correct. The original humans, who are all our distant ancestors would have been black skinned.
Blue eyes developed due to an increase in humidity, and cold tempetures.
All genes can be triggered by the enviromental conditions over many generations , leading to varying characteristics we find in the human race which are then labelled as races.
The science of Genetics is making a mockery out of racial sterotyping, and proves that the idea of races being separate is infact an illusion.

There was an excellent program on the National Geographic Channel a few years ago. I think it was called "The Real Eve." The program revealed the latest theories, and evidence regarding the real genetic Eve. This program supports suggests that the genetic Eve was black woman from Africa. If I recall correctly, one of the most convincing pieces of evidence was a map of genetic information from people all across the globe. Of all people Africans in Africa had the least common genes from each other in comparison to all other people. In short, a man from Canada and a man from China are more closely related than two men from the same village in Africa. This means it is more likely that we all share a common ancestor from Africa. Based on this information I think the first person was black, and people began to change to adapt to their environments once they traveled. People began to leave Africa once the environment changed from lush grasslands to desert. You should take a look at this program. It's excellent.

It has been said that everybody descended from a man in Africa 60,000 years ago so he must of been black. I have dark hair and blue eyes, so I'm guessing I have different ancestors from different parts of the world, I think I definitely had black ancestors from the way I'm built. I have a widish nose too, when you live in a hot climate your nostrils tend to be wider because of the warm air. I find it fascinating and would love to know where they all came from. I watched a programme called bloody foreigners and all these English people had their DNA tested. They found that their ancestors were from the Middle East and they were horrified! lol, it was really funny. At the end of the day we are descended from all over the place!
Vanilla face we adapted to the climate, that's why we look different now. We used to have an appendix for something!

As humans moved northward, those that had lighter skin lived to reproduce better than those that didn't. This is because the lighter the skin, the more sunlight affects it, and we need sunlight for Vitamin D production. When people went north, there was less sunlight because of the seasons and because they needed more clothing because of the cold. So those with lighter skin got more sunlight, did not get rickets, and reproduced more offspring and eventually some people became white skinned.

Because skin does not survive from millions of years ago, we have no way of knowing what colour it was on the first man. We assume that it was either black or dark brown or similar to people in the middle east.

I'd heard, but hadn't seen the program where it said that everybody's dna all originated form one woman. I believe it was a black woman. Like you, if this is the case, I'd assume that our skins went paler the further we moved.
Heres something else, to make you think, If - as some believe, we evolve from monkeys, why didn't monkeys evolve with us?

i believe that we are all decedents from Africa yes and with groups moving north into the colder climates and less sun our skin adapted to the changes ... i truly believe that as we evolve even more that one day we will all be the same colour once again .. and to the person who said why didn't monkeys evolve with us there are many diff factors to take into consideration, it was said we are a common ancestor and not necessarily evolved FROM monkeys ...
