Yes there is a problem with the international calls. The fiber optic cable that connects the Philippines to the US was affected. The cable is connected to Taiwan. Should you get through it sounds like you are in a cave or tunnel. My internet connection tends to slow down and stop every now and then. I suggest you contact her through Instant Messaging instead. Yahoo Messenger has a voice call feature. According to local cellular companies it would take weeks to normalize operations. They even requested people to minimize text messages during the New Year.

Calling cell phones to PHilippines is sometimes the only way to contact love ones. The cost is a little more than landline, but the consolation is you will get hold of them. Also text messaging is an option. I buy my phone card online, Nobel.com, they offer the first rate and they do not rip you off unlike the phonecards.

Yes. i just spoke to my sister and she said that it affected the signal in the Philippines. Even the banks were offline for awhile.
Just keep on trying. I did and i was able to get thru this morning finally! try texting her too so that she wont think you forgotten.
