This is not easy (I know). However, IF you consider yourself to be a pretty much sane person who has good judgement, AND IF you consider your partner to be the same, then go with what your partner says -- ESPECIALLY if your family know your partner and do not approve of her or him.
However, if you have made many poor decisions in the past, and if you have any doubts as to your partner's wisdom, then maybe you had better give the family's point of view another look-see.
In my experience, parents and family usually think they know better AND truly believe they have your best interest at heart, but generally they have it all wrong in spite of their very best and most sincere intentions.
Well, in this case, I hope I am right! Good luck!

Listen to yourself. You're an adult and can make your own decisions. It's not necessary to try and please everyone. Do what your heart tells you, even if society, your family and partner think it's wrong. That way, if you make the wrong choices, you have only yourself to blame, but making mistakes is how we learn. However, there's a 50-50 chance that you'll make the right decisions. After all, life is a gamble, isn't it?

You really didn't leave him. You still interact with him. You still talk and argue and be around him. You still listen to him. Maybe part of you wants him to beg for you. Get out while you can. You are still seeking attention from him. Make a new life for yourself and don't even think about communicating, looking, inquiring, or mingling with his friends. Don't engage in a conversation with him or his family. Don't care about him. Let the dead bury the dead so to speak. You better care about you and quick...

You need to listen to your gut instincts. They will not steer your wrong. Many times people in our lives think they know what is best for us but often the answers are right there if we listen close enough.

It depends on your situation but personally I would go with your family. Your family is always with you and partners may come and go.
