I've been reading this book off and on for about 4 months now. The funny part is it's great but I just can't seem to finish the damn thing.

Took me about a month. I think the trick with reading a big book like that is to keep at it for longer stretches at a time. Otherwise it takes quite a while every time you pick up the book to get back into its "mood". So, a few weekends without TV and pub might just do it...

Just watch the movies, there are two great movies made about Anna Karenina, the best one is with Greta Garbo, the second one is with Vivien Leigh. I am sure you can get both versions.Turner Classic Movies shows both versions, you can print out their programming guide on the Internet tcm.com

When I'm committed to a book, it takes me about a month. I have read Anna Karenina and it took me two months.

I know how you feel. :)

I wouldn't feel any need to rush to the end (I've read it, and it's stupid) so here's the technique I used to get through it:

Stop reading. In a few months, pick back up at the beginning. Sound like a lot of tedium to suffer through? Trust me, it's not.

You'll have more "momentum" so to speak, because it'll all be familiar, and you'll find you get farther.

Keep doing this as many times as necessary until you reach the end!

Good luck!!

I read it in a week, but that was probably because it was for a class. The thing that slows a lot of people down is all the Russian names, they seem so similar and are quite long. Tolstoy is worth the read though!

It took me 2 months. It is good no doubt about it, but it just goes on and on. It was my summer break, so I had other fun stuff to do besides the reading. But then came War and Peace, and just couldn't handle that one.
