I think we all understand that you can have too much of a good thing. Too much bravery becomes recklessness, being too accomidating makes one a doormat, too much honesty makes one tactless, etc. But wisdom is slightly different, because it is not so much a single attribute, as it is the proper proportion of many attributes. It seems to be the very stuff of knowing how to live and interact, and so based on that, can a person have too much of it? Can a person be so wise that s/he becomes dysfunctional?

No- for the simple reason being too wise fails to exist. One is wise, one is never too wise. If you are applying that someone is too wise, that means the person is not wise at all because the person is too wise.

I don't think so. If it is true wisdom, It is a self correcting mechanism. If you are truly wise and you find yourself pushed too much In any one direction towards an Unwise action, thought, or decision, That wisdom will guide you away from the Unwise action, thought or decision and make it easier, maybe Inevitable That the right course of action will come to pass.

But That leaves the question, What Is Wisdom?

Enjoy, And Happy New Year.

It goes to definition of wisdom. I think of wisdom as the ability to question the 'right' answers. But 'truth' is a relative thing and you have to settle somewhere where it works for you.

Paradoxically, if you find contentment in whatever area of truth you're searching, I suppose you have reached as far as wisdom goes. Maybe you can't be too wise because wisdom has limits, and hits that limit when you find that place of peace and contentment.

I think a person can be too wise, if they get caught up in their wisdom to the exclusion of all other things. I can also imagine the sheer pressure of both the self expectation and expectation of others to always have the wise answer.

Being too wise could make you intolerant of people less wise than you. It could even make you shun the company of most other people.

No, because if you were very wise, truly, you would know not to be prejudiced against people less wise.

Also, you would know that becoming dysfunctional is not wise. :)

If you know too much of one thing you can. If you know nothing but misery you can become depressed. If you know nothing but joy you'll be a fool.
