Lots of good answers here, but I'll give ya one more thing to think about......Not all reported injuries are what they seem. If a team has a pitcher come down with a sore arm, they may put him on the DL with a bogus injury like a slight ankle sprain or something less career threatening to a pitcher. They do this because they may have plans to trade the guy and they don't want other teams throwing up red flags because of a reported sore arm that went away with the proper rest & treatment. Hiding it can come back to bite em, but there is a lot of politics going on that you never hear about. A good example is Mark Prior from the Cubs. His arm troubles are out in the open now, but do you remember the first reported injury he had ? It was some sort of problem with his calf muscle !!!! Not a shot.

I REALLY do not think that a hangnail qualifies one to go on the Disabled List in baseball!! Further, not many HS kids play both ways either. Today is the day of the specialist, you know. Anyway, it is always difficult to tell how serious an injury is unless you are the one suffering from it. Don't be so hard on MLB players.

Chow!!

It depends on the athlete. See: Curt Schilling game 7 ALCS vs. Yankees in 2004.

The hangnail is only a problem if it affects throwing. It's a lot harder to throw a 90+mph slider for a strike with a sore finger.

When your in high school your playing to be playing your not gettin paid and you only have 4 years to play most professionals can afford to sit out a couple of games or more cause their careers can last 10 years or more.Baseball takes skill I bet more people can catch a football than hit a 90+ mph fastball or a 75-80 curveball that breaks from your head to you knees.

Not only do some high school, players play both, but even some college players do to. If you can remember Chris Gamble the WR/CB for Ohio State. He went on to get drafted by the Carolina Panthers. But overall it takes a great athlete to play both sides of the ball. And on the whole it takes a better athlete to play football than baseball. Baseball players are a buch of wussies.

Age for one. A high school kid has 10 times more energy than someone leaving college.

And most importantly, $$$$$. If a MLB players has an injury, he like most of us, doesn't play as well hurt. So his stats probably suffer. If his stats suffer, so does his pay check!

Although I do agree. Suck it up and play!

Hmm. Let's see. Could it possibly be that football players get a whole week to rest as apposed to baseball players playing pretty much daily for 6 months. Small baseball injuries don't heal when you play on them daily. They tend to get worse which often correlates with poorer production.

And to all y'all saying ballplayers are wusses, how bout you try playin 162 games, and while you're at it, you can have some 95 mph fastballs buzzin' around your chin.

Maybe it's the fact that it's a HIGH SCHOOL football kid, and a MAJOR LEAGUE Baseball player. The majority of High Schooler's don't have a future in sports. It's an investment in the major leagues.

The MLB is after specialists. If a player is great at hitting homeruns, they don't want to lessen his hitting ability by forcing him to take the field.
