I want to build a small room in my garage, and this would require a wall near my water heater. It is in a cornor right by two walls, but I heard something about a code about a wall's prosimity to the water heater. Help me out! Thanks

There should be minimum clearance information on the heater or in it's instruction book. Also, check your town if you are in one. If not, check the county. Sometimes they have more stringent requirements.

If you cannot meet the requirements, you may want to move the heater a little bit, or see if you can cover the wall with more heat resistant materials to meet their code.

todays' typical gas or electric hw heaters require 0" clearances from combustible mat'ls--excluding the flue...of which generally speaking, there are two types-type A & type B, single and double walled.. clearance from these is an inch or greater. So if you're not going to move your hw htr, don't worry. Use common sense.
Don't build your wall right up against the hot water heater, it might make it more difficult to replace it when it goes bad. good luck

Need more info. Electric or fuel fired water heater. If
fuel fired.,is it vented to exterior? Do you have the manufacturer's installation specifications?
