I found a Ford Contour 6 cylinder loaded in the newspaper with 98000 miles for $2800 bucks. I have been looking for a car for my daughter to drive to work. It says "loaded" and has a CD player, and AC. Is it worth looking at?

My first instinct is NO NO NO. Especially nearing 100k miles. I have 3 audis pushing 200k miles and plan to run them to 300k, but I wouldnt trust THAT ford for long. Not all fords are badbut that happens to be one of the cheap ones. Ive been a mechanic for 8 years and have nothing nice to say about fords except that they make me money. unless all the fluids look beautiful and the owner has meticulus maintenance records, I would stay away from it. contours/mystiques have been a failed abortion from the paper stage. go newer (focus) or go foreign.

Contours are generally good cars, however you do need to be aware of transmission issues on the 95-99 models.

The 99 model also has a gear shifting problem - it will eventually get stuck in park. There is a piece in the steering column that broke (plastic piece) that wont allow the gears to shift. Great on gas though..
