I am in the same situation with my sister. No return calls, sometimes a note mailed, just this kind of unwelcoming feel at her house.

How I deal: I do what I feel I need to, I call, I write, I email, if it weren't for me I wouldn't have a sister at all. And if it is up to me to keep the lines of communication open then fine I'll do it because it is important to me.

My own family is the same way. It's a sad shame but there is nothing we can do to fix it. We can't force a relationship with someone who doesn't want it regardless of familial ties. Even if you could force it you wouldn't want to. What kind of relationship would that be? I continue to call my sister on her birthday or other holidays and such but I have learned not to expect anything in return. If I get an invite to my nieces or nephews birthday party I go and if I invite her to my children's and when she doesn't come it hurts but I have to let it go. Be the bigger person. Treat your brother the way you would like to be treated. Just don't sit back and expect it to happen. This is a very hard situation to live in. God bless you!

I had the same problem with my two oldest brothers all my life and make loads of money. My older brother just above me and I are very close and he works very hard and doesn't make loads of money. SO, I decided to stop putting my best foot forward and being the one to call all the time being the one to try to be nice and congenial. We never communicate. I like it hat way--no more stress--no more anything--we talk when we see each other--and that's it--they know nothing about me and I know nothing about them. i look at this way--if they want me as their sister and I hav tried as hard as I have tried--then they can try on their part now. I did all I can do-now it's their turn. It is lame--but what do you do? You just do what you have to do for yourself and move on--sometimes family is family and sometimes families are not as close and we would like them to be.

Join the "My older brother doesnt give a care" club, know what your talking about. My older brother never returns calls or cards always says, his way to busy or he just forgot. Yeah it gets old after a while when its seems your the one trying to stay in contact. Skip his next birthday and see how long it is before he calls you......."Brothers do we really need them"?....lol
