My ex husband pulled an old wooden box with a broken lock out of the garbage, gave it a coat of varnish, and wrapped it up. He didn't even bother to fix the locok.
He made no bones about where he got it when I opened it.

Many years ago, my uncle had an old capri. He'd always promised me that when he was getting rid of it, he'd give me first refusal.
Well, one Xmas eve, he came round in a new car. I straight away, jumped to the conclusion that he had given the capri to my parents to give me on Christmas Day.
Come Christmas morning, I opened all my presents, fully expecting the last one my parents handed me to be the keys to the garage so I could find my car.
Needless to say, there were no car keys, no capri and certainly not gift wrapped in the garage.

That was almost as disappointing as finding out there was no Santa.

The worst was probably when I got invited to my friends' parents house for Christmas out of the blue. I brought a nice bottle of wine, and since they thought they had to get me something, they "gifted" me an old cheesy ceramic bowl from the 60's. But since they were friends of mine, I didn't really care.

The funniest one was getting a knife in my stocking. But I loved it! I wanted that chef's knife!

As far as "clunkers", I got some cast iron pots and pans this Christmas that are truly heavy! :)

In our homestead, Santa is our dogs and he leaves little domestic dog poops around the tree. they are consistently unwrapped, yet each now and then we beautify them and save them for Easter in case we run out of eggs so the youngsters could have an easter egg hunt.
