I had one. I housed 4 female bettas in it with no problems whatsoever. Then i moved my girls upto a 30 gallon and added 5 more girls. With the empty 5.5 minibow i then housed a single male betta and 4 neon tetras. Then i moved them upto a 20 gallon and used the 5.5 for a quarantine tank for 3 baby khuli loaches that came in with fungus that my boss gave me to try and save. They died and my excoworker told me about his baby albino polypterus senegalus how it had septicemia so i gave it to him to use as a quarantine tank. I dont know if he still has it or not.

I honestly liked it, it was a neat tank. The only thing i hated about it was that the acrylic scratches easily. One thing that i did tho was switch out that stupid incandescent bulb that comes with it, with a compact flourescent. My java fern flourished in that 5.5 with the compact flourescent bulb. I think i might get another 5.5 minibow. Just dont waste your money on the 2.5 minibow, 2 gallons are way too small for anything and are a waste of money.

By the way, i have what is called MTS (multiple tank syndrome), there is no escaping it.

If it's a 5 gallon, go with small fish. Be careful of goldfish. They give off a cloudy substance that will poison themselves if you don't clean the tank regularly. And multiple goldfish will make it that much more dirty. Goldfish also GROW as do many other kinds of fish! If you find a fish you like, ask about it at the pet store and they'll be able to best tell you what kind of environment it needs!

Good luck and have fun!

5 gallons is very restrictive. Personally, I dont think anything other than a betta and maybe a dwarf frog, or a trio of dwarf cory cats would suit a tank this small. it does not provide adequate swimming room for other fish like tetras, mollies, swordtails, etc. and is too small for larger fish like gouramis or goldfish.

get a few small black widow tetras. these fish are fresh water and beautiful coz they look exactly like the angel fish but black and silver with strips. also get white gold clouds. these fish are so tiny and have red dotted tails. they never grow and dont make any mess. {fresh water and swim in groups, so you should get a few of them},. they do not fight.
