What are the pros and cons? Do I have to change my video input when switching from hd to regular?

Depends on where you live (how close you are on the transmitter).
Check www.antennaweb.org. You type your address and they tell you what channels you can receive with a specific antenna.
You can use the same antenna for both HD and SD signals.
Digital channels are different than analog (example: 5 (analog), 5-1 (digital)
