Why is everyone worried about aids in africa and poverty in africa, when here in the U.S. we also have aids and poverty, I mean I understand that their problem may be bigger than ours, but don't we also need to focus on ourselves?

Not "everyone" is worried about aids and poverty in Africa. I think that is why we hear about it so much. Those people are in a bad way, and they have no one to help. They are already 3rd world countries with no where near what we have in the US. They are going to all die from aids if it isn't brought under control.

Yes, we need to take care of our own - I couldn't agree with you more. I also think that some folks with deep pockets - like our celebrity friends in L.A., can put their money where their mouths are and kick in some $ and help! They don't mind donating their time to perform to raise money....just GIVE money!

People worry about different things for different reasons, sometimes it's hard to follow.

People with a lot of money often have a lot of guilt, so they go out and look for huge projects to assuage their guilt. Others, like Bono and Oprah, have hearts so big they can't help but be generous.

(But you have to admit, Western Ecomonies are a great source for fund raising for devestating problems like AIDS in Africa. Too bad a lot of the $$$ goes to war lords.)
