I broke the odontoid peg off my C2 and am very unusual because i'm still fully mobile. Does anyone know how many people a year break their necks and what the odds of having no lasting problems from it are?

I only know of one person who had a similar fracture, and thankfully had no repercussions aside from a stiff neck - and very mild sensory symptoms which have all but resolved now.

Because of the structure of the neck at that level, it's quite rare for spinal cord injuries to develop as a result of odontoid fractures - that is if the initial injury is not fatal. Unfortunately, they quite often are fatal.

You were VERY lucky!

I'm an x-ray tech and though i haven't been doing it very long, I've never seen anyone with that type of break. I've barely seen what looks like a fracture of the dens. If you broke of your odontoid, consider yourself very lucky.

you'll survive, perhaps just get a little pain, it takes approx. 12 months for the spine to re-fuse then u shud b cool. but get it checked by a doctor if u havent already because if ur spinal chord is exposed it could b dangerous.
