I need to know the appropriate colors to wear and wear to find a nice dress in those colors.

Black is always the best option for black tie. I've seen purple and red. Try Nordstrom or Macys if you're on a budget.

A black ball skirt, and a sleeveless top one that clings to your body. In black with a mix of silver. Just dont wear white or the colors of the bridal party! But at black tie events most people do black or dark colors.

doesn't matter if you're female, although a black or white dress would blend in best with the other people's clothes.
