Always changes for a different market, it's whatever will get the viewers interested. Here "Pop Idol" worked, but "British Idol" wouldn't because we aren't as overtly patriotic as Americans. In 70s, comedy shows transferred and names changed, "Steptoe and Son" became "Sanford and Son", our Alf Garnett became their Archie Bunker - it's horses for courses

the program makers are not copying each other because the u.k and usa programs are mostly made by the same people. there will always be different versions for diffrent countries as it gets them more money

it goes both ways. for instance...
"what not to wear"...i don't know which country that started in, but trinny and susannah are way funnier than those people that do it over here. i couldn't even get through one episode of the american version, it was so revolting!

but then there's "top model". i think the british version pales in comparison to ours.

Well screw you for that, the most unwatcheble shows out there, american idol and all that is a bunch of crap id rather watch paint dry.

More like UK is copying the US. Just like Top Model and Idol, etc. EVERYONE COPIES US.... WHAT'S NEW?
