Male deer lose their antlers after mating season, its caused by a naturally occurring hormone change. The female deer do not have antlers, but may have little stubs. Female caribou are the only exception, but theirs are used for clearing snow to get to buried grasses, not for anything to do with mating. ~A~

in the area i live, the white tail deer start dropping their antlers in mid January to February. i live in the greater Cincinnati,Ohio area.
