Pythagorean Theorem is a theorm for finding the length of a side of a triangle. In algebraic terms, a^2 + b^2 = c^2 where c is the hypotenuse while a and b are the legs of the triangle.

Ex:

3^2+4^2=c^2
9+16=c^2
25=c^2
5=c
Square root both sides to get the length of c is +/- 5 but since length cannot be negative it is +5.

Ex:

6^2+b^2=10^2
36+b^2=100
b^2=64 (subtract the 36 to isolate the variable)
b=8
Square root both sides to get the length of b is +/- 8 but since length cannot be negative it is +8.

its for triangles and its A squared + B squared= C squared. it has to do with the "legs" of a trinagle...Lets say A=7(squared) and B=4(squared)...so 7squared is 49 and 4 squared is 16, therefore C= 65 squared, and if ur teacher wants u 2 actually to it then u do so...so the rea answer would be 4225...i hoped this helps, and its right, cuz i just made it up at the top of my head...(btw its spelled pythagorean theory...u put an M at the end instead of a N...just to let u know)

pythagoras' theorem states that the length of the side of a right triangle opposite the right angle, squared, is equal to the sum of the other two sides squared. so if we call the 3 sides a, b and c, c being the one opposite the right angle, a^2 + b^2 = c^2.

Pythagoras discovered many years ago that if you take a right angle triangle, add the squares of the two shorter sides, they equaled the square of the hypotenuse (c).

a(squared) + b(squared)= c(squared)

Basically a leg(squared) plus a leg(squared) equals the hypotenuse(the longest side) which is squared.

This only works on a right triangle.

EX.. a+12=24
a^2+(12x12)=(24x24)
a^2+144=576
----- -144 -144
--------
---------- 432
a^2=432
take the square root of a^2 which =a
take the square root of 432 which=20.7
