I would like to have my dress cleaned and boxed. I found a question and answer on yahoo that suggested a company which cost $300. I can't afford that much. Any other suggestions?

not really. that is the going rate unless you want to do it yourself.
1. Buy a box big enough to store your dress in
2. Make sure the box will not give an odor to your dress
3. Clean the stains off your dress & steem press it
4. Store it in a plastic bag that will not cause your dress to turn colors
5. Pack your dress in the box, make sure not to wrinkle it.

Not sure if all that is worth doing it yourself, but knock yourself out.
Maybe one day you would like to make it a dress for your daughter using the fabric, or maybe one day she'll want to wear it. Otherwise, not worth even storing it. Maybe just donate it....when your ready to part with it of course

I think they sell these bags that you can vacume pack your clothing. That should do the trick and cost much less than being boxed.

Any good drycleaner can do it for you for much less. They do it all the time.
