LABS!! My boyfriend had a black lab when we first got together named Winston. One day he just dissapeared and he was heartbroke.

I have worked at pet stores, horse stables, and vet clinics. This is my experience with those breeds:
labs- make wonderful family pets and great dogs in general; very versatile and kind, but they make very hyper and difficult puppies; as far as health problems hip displasia is a problem because they are large dogs
dachshunds- I personally have a long-haired miniature dachshund; i think that in general long hairs have much better personalities; short hairs can be a little bit snippy, but they are all very tough and loving dogs; health wise they are prone to back problems
chihuahuas- I have some very bad experiences with chihuahuas; while I'm sure there are some good ones and they are very cute of the approx. 30 times i have had blood drawn from a bite from a dog probably 20 of those have been chihuahuas
dalmatians- they can make really good pets but are prone to a lot of health problems- blindness, skin conditions, cancer, etc, etc.
Hope this helps and remember that the way you raise a dog is way more important in determing how they turn out then their breed. Good Luck!

A lab would be my first choice, a Chihuahua the second choice.

Labs!! People think small dogs are easier- they are wrong. I know all dogs are different and it depends on the handler, but I have never met a lab I did not like!

Depends if you want a big dog like a lab or a small one? I like pugs myself :)
