To keep their ballet shoes from slipping on the wooden floor or stage, for traction. Slip stop is a white resin powder which can be sprinkled on slippery floors to make them less slippery (stopping people sliding all over the place and falling over!)

It really doesnt't matter. I like canvas better for practice, but leather for performances. Canvas is easier to show the form of you foot I think, but leather are thicker usually and I feel like I get less blisters and stuff when I wear them. I think that both materials will slip the same because both have leather on the bottom. To reduce that though, when you go into class and are about to do turns or something, use a spray bottle and spray some water on the floor. Then kind of rub your foot in it walk around pivoting on your feet for few seconds so that they arent too sticky or too slippery!

Us ballet dancers use resin for the end of your point shoes, it stops you form slipping and is good for protecting the silky fabric.

We use it to stop slipping on floors, floors can be made from all types of wood and linoleum. You usually only need resin on wood floors. As the point shoes are hard surfaces they do tend to be slippy in certain moves, we try to bash as much of the hardness out as possible, but still need the resin. Also as the person before stated we slip the back of our pointe shoe off, rub our heel in it, and et voila the tights stick to the back of the shoe ensuring the pointe shoes don't fall off. (I now also use resin when i am doing class to stick my feet in a nice turned out position as i am getting older and my muscles don't work as well as they used to!!!!!) Hope that helps.....

resin or rosin? rosin like violin players use is to keep them from slipping on the floor. at my studio i take tap, ballet, and jazz and we use it in every tap and ballet because of slick spots on the floor.

We rub our shoes in it before we dance to stop ourselves from slipping on the floor. Sometimes we put it in between the heel of our shoe and our tights too to prevent the shoe slipping off the back of the heel.

It gives them more traction. Their shoes stick to the floor instead of slipping.
