of the machine.I bought it used. My problem is that it doesn't collect lint. None. Ever. I would actually appreciate this if it weren't for the fact that I picture it bursting into flames one day. Anyone have any ideas, besides "never buy a used appliance"?

Do You Have The Hose from the dryer - Vented Properly ? The one that is supposed to go into the wall and out , If you have that one hooked up right then you probably could call whirlpool and just ask them, why the top isn't collecting lint .. You can check their web site www.whirlpool.com.. Or you can lift the top off its actually easy,, and see if the hose to the top lint basket is hook up or has came loose.. I would think if the large hose from the bottom back of the dryer is vented properly, you wouldn't have to worry about fire.. But I would check out the other things I have listed.. If you open the top of the dryer and it full of lint ,, just clean it out and try to see if you can find the hose that runs to the top.. or just put a pair of ladies panty hose on the inside end and that works great also ...

Sure Hope This Makes Since

I do know what I'm taking about, just don't know if i worded it properly

Hope This Helps

Good Luck

The only reason that the filter is not collecting lint is there is no air flow going through the filter. With a flashlight look inside the dryer on the right side in the back. You will see a teardrop shaped vent with holes. If these holes are blocked they need to be opened. If the holes are blocked the filter duct is most likely blocked as well. If they look open remove the vent from the rear of the dryer and dry a normal sized load and check the filter. If there is still no lint then the filter duct should be removed and cleaned.

To remove the filter duct you take the back cover off, remove the two screws at the opening where the filter goes in on the top of the dryer and remove the four hex head screws that hold the filter duct to the blower housing at the bottom. The filter duct will pull loose from the housing and can be removed from the dryer. Clean the duct out from top to bottom and reassemble. Try a normal sized load still without the vent attached and see what the results are. The load should be done in less than 45 minutes. If everything is working at this time check the vent for blockage and reassemble vent to the dryer. Run another normal load and if you have lint in the filter and the load dries within 45 minutes you have repaired your dryer. If this is too much for you to do then call for the repairman and watch him do it(unless he discovers something else).

You will have a fire. Unplug the machine, take off the front bottom of the machine, pull out the machine. There is definitely a clog. Maybe someone even shoved a sock in there. You should look under where you removed the bottom front section and vacuum it out. Look for a large build up of lint here. If not, remove the top of the dryer with an electric screw driver(its very annoying to do it with a regular screwdriver) Follow the lint basket through the path of the dryer and you should find the clog.

I dunno. I think I'd have it checked out by a serviceman. Is it drying? Can you feel hot air coming from the exhaust pipe? If not, something is definitely clogged up or broken, and I wouldn't use it because of the danger of fire. I have a top lint filter (the kind that slides up and forward) on my Whirlpool, and it collects lint. I have to empty it every 2 or 3 loads. (Yeah, I know I'm supposed to empty it every time, but I'm lazy. I don't clean the exhaust duct, either.)
With what you paid for the used one, and what you'll pay to have this one fixed, I bet you wish you'd bought a new one. (Just rubbing it in a little.)

if its not collecting lint, the lint must be going somewhere, there may be a clog in the exhaust vent, the link would be going out every crack in the dryer tumbler. you re clothes will also take much longer to dry. pull off the vent hose, turn the dryer on and check to see how much air flow you get? if you re not getting alot you will need to turn the dryer off and make sure the vent is wide open, no clogs, if you do oget airflo check to make sure the vent going outside is also open, if both of these check out you need to open the dryer and find out where the link is collecting and clean it out, then make sure there are no articles of clothing or objects anywhere inside the workings of the dryer.

but as you brought up, if link collects inside you can cause a fire,

please make sure you get this problem fixed right away!

Something is definately wrong, as you have suspected. I would open up the unit to see if there is something stuck inside. Open it from the back and/or top.

I have done this before, to change the felt sealing strips. It is a bit heavy, but not complicated.

Is there hot air coming out the exhaust port? If not, I would not even use it until it is fixed.

Unless there are huge gaping holes in the filter, the problem is not the filter and buying a new one would not help.

With the dryer running, remove the filter. Put a piece of paper over the hole. It should suck down. I can bet it won't. Your vent pipe is kinked or the vent tube is blocked. I t probably takes 3 hours to dry towels. It is a vent issue, not the dryer.

Wow that is odd, usually the only thing to go out on a dryer is the heating element or the timer. I would call a local small engine repair shop and have someone come and take a look at it before it does catch on fire

Good luck
