it was a long time since I saw the first one and I don't want to watch it again, so can someone fill me in on the details and relationship between him (Jeffrey Rush character) and Jack Sparrow because obviously he will be a big part in the third segment End of World. Thanks

If Barbosa got killed in the POTC-the black pearl, then how did he show up at the end of POTC dead man's chest? Was that at the "End of the World?"

Um, Barbosa was only the cursed captain of the Black Pearl, who mutinied against Jack and left him stranded on an island in the middle of the Caribbean. He is also the one who took the cursed Mayan gold, and thus could not die, but in the end the curse was broken by both Jack and William Turner, and Barbosa was killed in the end. Or so we thought.....

Barbosa led a mutany against Jack Sparrow. Took his ship and position of captain away from Sparrow. Left Sparrow stranded on a deserted island.
Barbosa and Sparrow had a duel in the first movie and Barbosa died as a result.

He was the Captain of the Black Pearl after overthrowing Jack Sparrow. The little undead monkey was his good buddy.

Barbossa was Jack's first mate on the Black pearl until he lead a mutany against him, and him and his crew took the corsed Aztec gold. They became immortal, until the end when Jack finally killed barbossa, or at least that's what we thought. I love those movies!

The bit where he comes back just adds to the mystery though im guessing in the second film where they say isla de muerta was claimed by the sea and then davy jones saying i am the sea could mean that he and davy jones made a pact and davy jones kept the treasure.
