Don't believe the guy who said Texas. I'm born and raised here--thankfully haven't lived here ALL my life though!!!

Sure we don't have a state income tax, but the property taxes will KILL you. I am currently searching for another state to live in so I can get a second home when I retire and can no longer afford to pay these taxes.

It all depends on what scenery you want to see and what weather you want to deal with when you are outside. I would also say look into what educational opportunities there are for any children you do or might have as well as the medical services available. I'm tied to a hospital here in Texas for my daughter's care and so I stay. Figure out what services you need, what you can do without, what recreational activities you enjoy, and if the kind of work you do or want to do is available in a certain area and then take it from there.

No place is that much different financially--I mean, the poor exist everywhere and they manage to get by in every city and state and town. Some places pay more and the real estate is more and in the places where the real estate is less it is because the jobs pay less and you get less services. So it all evens out in the end.

If anyone ever figures out what the best state to live in is, please let ME know.......

Depending what you like of course, but since I am a native of Oregon I feel this is the best place.
We have peeps from all over moving here, we have mountains to ski on. We have the ocean, we have desert,we have cities,we have (I have read) some of the last spots that are not habitable by man. Very remote places! We have towns that people have airport stripes instead of driveways. We have some towns that are a very high percentage of millionaires living there. Where else can one go where a 1100 acre ranch is small (I worked on a 1100 acre place and I thought it was pretty big lol!). We have producers and actors, authors who if they want to be left alone come to Oregon....
We have everything here....
