There's no 'hard and fast' rule. But I define it as any popular guitar-driven rock music from 1968 through 1980.

Or simply put...any rock music people got stoned listening to.

I think it's more about the band, just because if a "classic rock" band comes out with something new, they play it on the classic rock stations. So I think it just regards the band and the time period it came out in. Any heavy rock bands that came out in the 60's and 70's that was relatively popular are classified, although I'm sure it's debateable and a lot of people hold it more to a matter of opinion.

In my opinion, "classic rock" is from a classic era. Ie: the 60s to about the early 80s.

I seriously cannot imagine bands like Bon Jovi, Ratt & Poison EVER becoming classic rock.

I would think it ranges from the 1960's to the late 1970's and stops about 1983, before all the shitty hair band rock started. I do not belive Metallica is Classic Rock and neither should G&R.

a car is considered a classic after 25 years, but i think to be considered "Classic Rock" the song has to be from the 60's and 70's.

That's a good question. Of course it depends on who you ask. The classic rock station here plays a lot of stuff i think shouldn't be included, like Def Leppard and Boston and Styx. Ugh.

It has to be from a certain time period, generaly from 1968- 1989. but i have heard Paradise City (G+R) on classic rock radio stations. i suppose there are exeptions to every rule.

Yea, it's kind of like criteria for an antique license plate for a car. It has to be over 25 years old...Love it!
