I dont want to make this sound like its very simple but I just decided one day that I was going to stop after fifteen years. I didnt broadcast it to everyone or make a big deal of it and the days slipped by, then the weeks and I felt great. Everyone can do it . Just dont allow yourself to feel like you are enslaved by it.For most people its a habit, not a chemical addiction, so learn to break the habits. Recognise the times you normally light up eg with a coffee etc and do something else. I wish you the best with this. It is just the best feeling when you take control

I started smoking lighter and lighter cigarettes, with intent to quit. One day I got extremely sick with the flu, but had to keep going to work anyway. I was so sick I couldn't stand the thought of a cigarette, and it was a freezing January and I couldn't smoke indoors at home or at work. After two weeks when I got better the urge to smoke had also passed to a large extent. I started smoking again later, but when I got bronchitis, and could feel what it's like to have messed up lungs, I quit again for good.

I agree.

Just do these things and you will smoke much less.

1) Don´t smoke at home. Try to go smoking outdoors
2) Don't finish the cigarette. Once you are more or less "satisfied" just throw it away.
3) Try to wait 5 minutes before you light on a cigarette

I wish you luck. And don´t quit your fight. If you keep trying, even if you can´t now, you will be able later.

I changed things that made me want to smoke. I quit cold turkey 2 years ago this new years eve. I didn't goto bars and drink for a while, instead of my morning coffee I switched to tea. I started to knit to keep my hands occupied and I went through enough sugar free gum and mints to freshen the breath of the entire world. lol Also, I joined a health club so that when the restlessness hit me...I would have an outlet for it. When I craved a smoke very badly...instead I took a walk. good luck

Cold turkey. I threw away my last few cigarettes and my lighters. The first three days were awful. Five and a half years later i still think about it just about everyday. As much as I miss it, I am even happier that I do not smoke.

Smoke less.
Nice and slowly, reduce the number of smokes you smoke a day then your body will get used to less nicotine in the system.

I kept decreasing the number of cigarettes and also kept going to a lower nicotine cigarette. Eventually, I could not find a cigarette that tasted good. I quit. I suppose I was lucky.
