wash the item in the hottest water allowed for the fabric. check the tag inside.
Use detergent, plus some bleach or non chlorine bleach if the item is colored.
Use some scented fabric softener in the washing maching as well.
Don't dry the item until you are sure that all the fuel is out...if there is any left on the fabric it could catch fire w/ the heat of the dryer..

The Mr. comes home from work at times stinking of diesel.
Some of the things I had tried
Washing in tomato juice-
Washing, washing,washing normal-
Air drying-
Just letting it ware off-

I HATE it when one of the machines goes bad and he has to fix it- it stinks up the whole house! Good luck and if you find something better I will be watching this question to see if anyone else has anything better...

The fragrance of diesel might desire to wish back out in case you soak it in rubbing alcohol or denatured alcohol. The molecules that make it fragrance like diesel might desire to desire to bond to the alcohol and come out of it. in spite of the certainty that the excellent time I had this matters we wiped clean it in gasoline then alcohol. gasoline to get the diesel fragrance out then alcohol to get the gasoline fragrance out.
