I can't afford hormonal birth control, I can't remember to take the pills. So, what are my other optionsof birth control? Of course, I'm goin' to a condom and please don't put "absitence". I wanna know what my options are and the percentage of the failure rate and such. I wanna know the statistics when used with a condom.

Please do NOT choose depo provera. I was on it for four years and am glad I am off of it.

As for not remembering the pill. If you have a cell phone that has a calendar on it, schedule your pill every day at noon (or whatever time best suits you). Works for me, and I am always forgetful.

Check out the site below and look at the reviews.

depending on your area, you have some different options-
if you live within an area with such a provider, you can get implanon (i think that's what it's called) put into your upper arm, and that releases hormones for 3 years. i had its predecessor, norplant, and i loved it. then there's the depo provera shot. a lot of people seem to hate it, and once you get it, you can't get it out of your system. it takes actually 9 months for 1 dose to totally clear out of your system. so if you don't like it, you're stuck with it. but it is great for some women and highly effective. then there's the nuvaring. you insert this hormonal ring into your vagina, where it sits up inside of you. it releases hormones all month long, and then you take it out and replace it wtih a new one. there is also the patch, and i don't know how often you have to change that.

if you're looking at cost, go to a family planning clinic like planned parenthood and get your female care and contraception there. they can answer any questions you have, and tell you the prices of all your options. i used to use the ring, and at planned parenthood it was $15 in my area. pills there are also $15 in my area, so they were on par. i don't know how much shots and patches cost. the implant, if i remember correctly (and my memory can be bad sometimes) is around $400, but consider that it is birth control for 3 years. multiply out the months- and divide into 400- it is $11.11 a month, so cheaper over a 3-year period of time than any of the other methods.

your mileage may vary.

all of those methods are at least 98% effective when used correctly. if you're combining condoms, i haven't been able to find statistics for that, but you can rest assured that you won't be the 1 in a million to get pregnant using both a hormonal and very good barrier method. even if the condom breaks, you're still covered by very reliable birth control.
